Moon+ Reader for #Android – Your #ebook #reader for best experience on #dellstreak

Posted by Sanjay on January 25, 2011

I love reading books and since my phone is always with me I prefer reading on it rather than carrying a dedicated ebook reader such as a nook or kindle. I have a Dell Streak which has a 5″ inch screen so that really helps.

I have tried a lot of ebook readers on android – kindle, aldiko, fbreader, kobo and a few others. Each has its own sets of features and problems. Let me not go into those.

I have finally settled on Moon+ reader. The best thing I like about it is that it can read a wide variety of formats. The most common ones that I use regularly are TXT, HTML and EPUB. Not many of the readers that I have mentioned above can do all formats. I have a pre-existing collection of ebooks so I dont really download much directly from the internet book stores.

Moon+ reader is fast, it does not consume much resources and its user interface while reading is really good. It can be customized a lot and it also has an option to enable page-turning animations the kind that you get in the iphone stanza app. I have not seen these animations in any other android ebook reader app that I have used so far. The other good thing about this app is that you could start reading directly from a file; you do not have to import books from a particular location on your sd card to be able to read. I find this important because importing books into particular apps tends to create duplication of files and an unnecessary waste of resources. It has all the standard features which are available in ebook reader apps.

So I recommend that you try this one if you like reading books and if you have a android handset with a decent amount of screen real estate. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

ICICI Bank launches #Android application ‘iMobile’ | AndroidOS.in

Posted by Sanjay on January 25, 2011

I have an ICICI account and was really disappointed that the application was available for iphone and symbian but not for android. Well, ICICI has finally released one for android. I have downloaded and used it and it seems to be pretty good. It can only be used from your registered mobile number and you have to register for mobile banking prior to activating it from your mobile phone. There are a number of security levels in the application which renders it quite safe for most users. If you have an ICICI bank account and a GPRS enabled Android handset I recommend that you try this out.

ICICI Bank finally introduced an application for Android phones users. Dubbed same as other platforms “IMobile”, the application is now available for free in Android Market. However, you will be needed to register for bank’s mobile banking service to use the application. More details on registration here.

Application allows you to check bank account/credit card details, make bill payments, do fund transfers and more. To download the application, search for iMobile in Android Market now.

#Mystreak Dell Streak 1.6 Keyboard on 2.2 – Android @ MoDaCo

Posted by Sanjay on January 5, 2011

rahulkadukar has posted this at the Dell Streak forum in modaco. For those who prefer the original Dell Streak keyboard here it is. Please click on the source link to download the apk. This is the original post from modaco

This is what I have now got, please bear with me, I am not an expert and can at the most modify the layout of the keyboard. Suggestions are always welcome, I am learning JavaScript, XML and SVG. Then I will make a web page where you can drag and drop and make your own keyboard. I am still learning so expect the final result in around 2 weeks, also my Java is not spectacular so I will keep adding new stuff as and when I learn it

Till then enjoy. The portrait mode is now functioning normally.

Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 480 ] – Click to view full image

I wanted to add one thing, when you press Shift then you can see the Screen shot shown below and on that if you press ABC then you actually see the same symbols but if you want to change the symbols you can tell me and I will include them, what this basically means is that we can have 3 views. I am currently using only 2 and if someone wants some extra keys we have one whole view

Just added 3rd view

With Shift key pressed

Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 480 ] – Click to view full image

With Shift Key followed by ABC

Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 480 ] – Click to view full image

Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 480 ] – Click to view full image

Changes made

1. Added a ? when SHIFT is pressed in place of 0 key. Thanks jeffrey2000 for pointing this out.

2. Added the 3rd view with smileys and top level domains used while browsing the internet.

3. Added the arrow keys, finally got the thing working

4. Keyboard works normally in Portrait mode. Thanks to steflucrene for the tip.

Things to do

1. Make a specific version for the Archos Tablet.

MIUI Digital Weather Clock comes out of ROM and hits the Market

Posted by Sanjay on January 4, 2011

I’ve used the MIUI ROM and I have to say that it is one of the best implementations of Android out there. The degree to which this ROM has been tweaked and customized is awesome. This clock widget is at par with beautiful widgets which is what I currently use but it is a paid app. Try this out if you want something thats just as good but for free.

The MIUI ROM is a very successful ROM from China. Just a few weeks ago we brought you coverage on the MIUI Music application getting ported out to all devices. Today we find out that the MIUI Digital Weather Clock Widget has now also been released for all devices. This time though, it is available in the Android Market for you to enjoy for free.

As you can see, the widget looks pretty similar to some of the customizations that can be found for Beautiful Widgets. I still think it is unique enough to warrant a look though. Especially if you don’t have the paid Beautiful Widgets application, this would give you a nice new weather clock for FREE.

Click or Scan the QRCode below to find out more information about the MIUI Digital Weather Clock  application.

Summary and Downloads:

Application: MIUI Digital Weather Clock

Developer: Factory Widgets

Cost: FREE
